"Rosetime And You"

by the Atlantic Dance Orchestra

To contrast with Zez Confrey's arrangement of this song (posted elsewhere in the archives), here is one instance where the Edison version is actually hotter. The personnel in this band is largely unknown, though the lead trumpet is Louis Katzman according to written logs. The group performs very solidly as though they have been playing together for years. This was recorded for Edison Labs on April 4 of 1923, the first of several takes (take "A"), and it's a very nice performance. They take this Luceyth "Lucky" Roberts tune (written for the musical "Go Go" with lyrics by Alex Haley) and dig into it righteously. The surface of this disc was nearly perfect, which allowed for a minimum of noise treatment to tame the usual disc rumble and that was all.
