Written by the singing duo of Gus Van and Joe Schenck, with music by Henry Lodge (a pianist who wrote "Temptation Rag" and "Black Diamond Rag" before WWI), this song was recorded many times in 1923. This was Edison's version, waxed
on April 16 of that year, with a decently jazzy performance by the venerable (and mostly anonymous) Atlantic Dance Orchestra. The trumpet solo work on this side, by Edison' star trumpeter Louis Katzman, is especially noteworthy as is the
ensemble passage near the end. The record from which this had been sampled had been played mercilessly, probably on the wrong machine, so you will hear "blasting" whenever someone hits an A-natural (there's lots of those in this
piece). Noise reduction helped. While some noise remains, especially on those A-notes, it is now "good enough" until I can find a better copy of the record.
