"What'll You Do"

by Paul Bolognese and his Orchestra

A Radiex side from October of 1927, recorded at the Grey Gull studios, and featuring one of the more prolific "house bands" for that label. This is one that actually appeared under Paul's name; others were psuedonyms such as the "Pebble Beach Dance Orchestra." It's a very nice side, with a good arrangement (featuring an ending that will leave your foot suspended in mid-air), though the electric equipment they were using lent a "pinched" quality to the recording. The identity of the vocalist is unknown (anyone know?). The tune was written by Ned Miller and Chester Cohn (both managers of Feist Music branches, teamed up to co-write "You Don't Like It - Not Much" and "My Supressed Desire"). The condition of the record wasn't too bad, though being a Grey Gull record the shellac was noisy from the factory, so a gentle once-over with noise reduction made it sound better than new.
