In the summer of 1925, Okeh Records took their mobile recording equipment into Atlanta Georgia to record some local musicians in the area. This was one of them. It was waxed in July of 1925, and features what must be the first recorded
performance by Chris Bouchillon who would make sides for Columbia in later years. The other personnel is not known, but Ethyl Bouchillon is probably playing on this side as well. The recorded balance favors the vocals heavily, and the disc
was played to death, so between these two factors the accompanying instruments tend to blend into the static. Some noise surgury was required, and though it is certainly not perfect there is a definite improvement in the listenability of
this Country classic. (One of the sides that Mr. and Mrs. Bouchillon recorded, "Adam and Even part two", can be heard on the Columbia 2-CD set
"White Country Blues, 1926-1938" - the CD is itself out of print, but is worth searching out.)
