This song, with music written by Will D. Cobb and lyrics by Ren Shields, sold a lot of piano sheet music by the time it was released in two forms on Victor records in 1906 - this is the 8" version, with only the first verse and the chorous
(the 10" recording is on-line at Virtual Gramophone of
Canada). Billy Murray, one of the most prolific recording artists of the acoustic era, sings the song in his permanently cheerful manner. The Hadyn Quartet, one of the better Barbershop-style vocal groups recording at the time (featuring
Harry MacDonough as tenor), provide able backing.
