Aleksandr Kirilloff and his band recorded this selection twice for Victor, an acoustic and an electric version. This is the electric recording, take 10 (!), made in January of 1926. Besides being a wonderful rendition of this
very familiar tune it is a good demonstration of the dynamics that were possible with the new recording method. It starts whisper soft, grows very loud in the middle and gets very quiet again at the end, as though the listener were
on the river bank and the boat was going by. There is some needle wear in the very loudest parts, but thankfully little wear elsewhere as the original owner must have changed the needle after each playing. Light noise reduction
was all that was necessary.
