"Let Me Sing and I'm Happy"

by Irving Kaufman

Most commonly associated with Al Jolson, this song, written by Irving Berlin and featured in Jolson's movie "Mammy" from 1930, gets a rousing rendition from Irving Kaufman for the "Domino" label. Recorded on March 19, 1930, it was also released on the "Banner" label and maybe a few others in the Plaza record group as well. Irving doesn't come across as a complete Jolson impersonator, but there are enough of Jolson's inflections here to make the listener take another look at the label afterward. The disc was in nice condition, just some wear on the louder notes and a reasonably quiet groove, so noise reduction was used sparingly.
