"Hawaiian Hula Medley"

by the Mid-Pacific Hawaiians

Aside from the director William Akama, there is probably not one native Hawaiian in this bunch, though they do a pretty decent job of sounding halfway authentic. Edison Labs recorded this one electrically (!) on December 7 of 1927. Unlike many of the other Hawaiian titles that Edison released over time, some of which served as good sleep-aids, one could actually tap one's toe to this. The bass singer gets down with his bad self in the middle of the recording, and the other highlight is a very nice slide guitar solo further in. The record may have been played once or twice, but not much more than that, and only needed rumble removal.
