"It's a Happy Old World After All"

by the Dixie Music Makers

Bob Haring is actually conducting the band for this side, issued on both Cameo and Romeo labels and recorded in April of 1927. The vibrato of the alto sax is wide enough to make the record sound as though it has a lot of flutter in it, but as soon as the sax stops playing the flutter stops too. The arrangement only gets hot at the very end, staying relatively tame until then, but musicianship is excellent throughout. The tune was written by Tommie Malie and Jimmy Steiger (also responsible for "Looking At The World Through Rose Colored Glasses" and "Stars are the Windows of Heaven") with the help of Paul Ash (bandleader, co-wrote "Sunbeam" and "Thinking Of You"). The vocalist is uncredited on the label but is probably Larry Murphy who was making records for Cameo during the same period. The surface of this record was scuffed but not too deeply so light noise reduction treatment took care of what little there was.
