Walter "Gus" Haenschen, recording for Brunswick under the ficticious name of Carl Fenton during the late acoustic era, was (along with Isham Jones) one of the more prolific bandleaders for that label. This is his recording of a song that Howard Johnson (wrote "Freckles") and Walter Donaldson (also co-wrote "Yes Sir That's My Baby") wrote together in 1921. It was put to wax in March of 1922. The arrangement is tasty, though thoroughly in keeping with the trends of the period, and well recorded by the Brunswick engineers. Some minor crackle remains after noise treatment, but nothing that would interfere with the music. (Further bios about Walter Haenschen a.k.a. Carl Fenton can be found at Tim Gracyk's site, and Big Band Biographies.) |
