I was once told, by a woman I met, that nostalgia did not exist until the 1950s. That may be true for the merchandising of it, but here's proof positive that the sentiment has been with us for longer than that. Arthur was in fine voice for this Victor recording,
waxed at the Camden NJ studios in April of 1919. It was also a hit for Bert Williams over at Columbia. The song was written by Darl MacBoyle (co-wrote "Forever is a Long Long Time" and "Where Rolls the Oregon") and Nat Vincent (co-author of "I'm Forever Blowing
Bubbles" and "That Railroad Rag"), and includes a few generous barbs at Wartime rationing as well as Prohibition. The record was in very nice shape, and didn't need much work to sound great again - dare I say, "like the old days"?
