This hit from 1919, written by Cliff Hess, Howard Johnson and Milton Ager, was a brilliant nostalgic portrait of that kid that everyone remembers (you know, the one who always got in trouble - maybe it was you!). Nora Bayes, at the peak of her powers when this was recorded for Columbia, delivered this like the consumate pro she always was. This disc was not played very much, so we are blessed with a clean surface with only occasional wear on the louder passages. (John Culme's "Footlight Notes" archives features a brief bio and a nice picture of Nora for further scopage.) |
