"The One I Love Belongs to Somebody Else"

by Isham Jones and his orchestra

Sheet Music Courtesy of Hourglass Antiques I was sure that someone had to have reissued this one by now, but it looks like no one has yet - this is Isham Jones' first recording of a song he wrote with Gus Kahn that would become a worldwide standard. This was recorded on December 21, 1923, for Brunswick studios - he would record a vocal version with Al Jolson, which has been reissued, but this is the instrumental version. They play it straight, as a white band would, and it's a very accurate representation of what people liked to dance to in 1923. This particular copy had a hairline crack in it, but was in exceptional condition besides that and was worth saving. With a dot of SuperGlue on the edge, and a little crackle and hiss reduction, this one is as good as new.
