This tune is a reworking of the Victorian era sentimental song "Please Mr. Conductor, Don't Put Me Off the Train" which Byron G. Harlan recorded for an Edison cylinder in 1903 (see
"Tinfoil.com" for a sample of that recording). Lester and Robert were blind musicians who were pioneer Country performers on radio (WLS in Chicago), and made
several sides for Brunswick - this is one of their early ones, made in May of 1927 - and this newer version of the old song is probably one they wrote themselves. While the song and the delivery are unapologetically corny, the
sweetness of the harmony and the lack of guile are refreshing. The surface of this record didn't suffer too badly with the passage of time and only needed some static removed to be enjoyable again.
