Spencer Williams (his bio can be found at "RiverWalk.org") and Anton Lada (co-wrote "Foot Warmer") wrote this little gem in 1921, and it was a huge hit
for the Mound City Blue Blowers a few years later (their version can be heard at the Red Hot Jazz Archive). This version was done for the Cameo label on September 19 of 1924 by
a group was usually under the baton of Sam Lanin. Other than the name of the leader, the personnel on this record is unknown. It's a good band, whoever they are, and they play this one joyously. Whoever owned the disc before I got it played it
joyously too - nearly to death in fact - and it took a generous amount of noise reduction work to make it sound good again. Definitely a keeper, though, in spite of the wear.
