Howard Johnson (co-wrote many songs including "Freckles" and "Keep Your Eye on the Girlie You Love"), Charles Tobias (wrote words for such hits as "Sweet and Lovely" and "The Old Lamp Lighter"), and Al Sherman (co-author of "Save
Your Sorrow" and "Now's The Time to Fall In Love") joined forces on this huge hit from 1927. This side was recorded for Regal (that's the American dime-store label, not the British one) on July 6 of that year by what is likely Adrian
Schubert's orchestra. He hired a very tight-sounding but loosely organized group of musicians that could include any of several dozen guys available at the time (this record might or might not include the young Benny Goodman or either
one of the Dorsey Brothers for example). It's a great arrangement, played energetically, with the vocal handled by the whole band. The record had been played harshly, many times, but there was enough life left in it to get a decent
sample after doing away with the crackle in the grooves.
