"When I'm Away From You Dear"

by Richard José

Already a seasoned concert-hall veteran by the time Victor recorded him in the early 1900's, Richard José could sing a sentimental song like no one else - his high-tenor voice and his sincerely ernest manner was the perfect combination to convey such material. This song, written by Paul Dresser (author of "My Gal Sal") in 1904, suited José's delivery perfectly. This particular copy is in good shape for the vintage - though it has the typical early Victor groove noise, it is remarkably scratch-free.
