Of the two "bird" songs that were introduced in 1927, "Bye Bye Blackbird" and this one, the former has been performed more frequently since then (and is therefore better remembered). This song was recorded prolifically
in its day then it effectively vanished. This is one of the vocal versions, performed by the former vocalist from Abe Lyman's band freshly embarked on a solo career. Columbia recorded this on November 5 of 1926, eight days
after the Coliquot Club Eskimos recorded it in the same studio (a sample of that performance can be heard at the Red Hot Jazz Website). He performes
this in a style that only the mid-20s could have produced. The record had been played a number of times, but running the sample through a crackle filter cleaned it up nicely.
