"The Dance From Down Yonder"

by Bennie Krueger's Orchestra

Written by three giants of Tin Pan Alley - Buddy DeSylva (co-wrote "April Showers"), Joseph Meyer (co-wrote "California Here I Come"), and James Hanley (co-wrote "Rose of Washington Square") - in late 1925, this spritely tune is given a good shot of adrenalin by Bennie Krueger's band. Krueger was the guy who played saxophone in the Original Dixieland Jazz Band because someone at Victor thought there should be a sax player in the group. ODJB moved to another label after that, and Bennie started his own band & did very well. This is a side he recorded for Brunswick on October 2, 1925. It's one of the first electric sides, which is only a slight improvement over acoustic - distortion is very much in evidence. This copy looked good but sounded scratchy (bad needles probably did that), and while it doesn't sound perfect the treated sound sample is certainly an improvement.
