This has to be one of the most delightful cylinders I've ever stumbled across. Irene had a varied career, working first on stage then to radio and movies, and can be seen in many pictures made throughout the late 20s and 30s. During her
stage career, Edison Labs brought Irene in to record some cylinders. She would record five, three of them in December of 1911, and this is the second of those. She wrote her own material along with Burton Green who is probably playing the
piano behind her. She was years ahead of her time, sounding here like many female entertainers (such as Vaughn DeLeath) sounded 15 years later. What's sweeter, the humor here hasn't aged a day - the wit is still fresh and ascorbic. The
cylinder itself had been well cared for in its time, and other than hiss and rumble reduction didn't need much noise removal at all.
