"Oh! To-morrow Night"

by Jack Norworth

Singing the part of the repressed husband, which seemed to be his stock in trade as a performer, Jack stays true to form here on this recording for Pathé disc in 1919. The song, written by Francis Byrne (co-wrote "How Are You Going To Wet Your Whistle"), was entertaining though about ten years behind the times - it apparently sank into oblivion soon after publication. I have not been able to find any other recording of this song listed for any of the other labels of the period. This particular copy is noisy, and the performer's distance from the horn during recording doesn't help - many of the clicks and pops had to be removed manually. It is an interesting slice of history, though, and the results were worth the effort.
