A white bandleader of some note, mostly recording for dime-store labels (as well as Edison Diamond Disc on occasion), Joe Candullo was a violinist who had a knack for picking out good musicians for his band. The personnel of this band
included Ray Baudic on drums, Fud Livingston on saxophone, and Red Nichols on trumpet (who is heard to good effect on this side). This was recorded for Regal in April of 1926, and is the third of three takes made. It's very jazzy and
mellow at the same time. Takes one and two might still be found on CD at "VirgilJazz", a hobbyist in Argentina. This particular copy was beaten up
pretty badly but, with careful use of noise reduction, much of the surface noise has been nudged into the background while preserving the music. The effort expended was well worth it.
