This very popular number from 1922, an early hit for the youthful Nacio Herb Brown (who would write classics for early cinema such as "Singin' in the Rain" and "Pagan Love Song"), was recorded many times. Mike Markel and
his band put this version on wax for Okeh on June 21 of that year. It's a novelty number, calling melodrama to mind, and has a particularly rousing finish. The record had been played a lot so there is some surface noise to
contend with. Some noise remains to keep the fidelity of the trumpets on this record - the engineers at Okeh got a nicely balanced recording here, and too much noise reduction would have altered that.
