"Singing in the Bathtub"

by the Four Aces

Someone has posted the Harmony pressing of this record on YouTube, but my sample is better quality and is on the Diva label so I'm presenting it here. To reiterate what the YouTube poster had to say, this group is certainly not the late forties quartet, but one with the same name from the late 20s that featured four guitar players: Dennis Finnegan, Al Perry, Charlie Anderson and Joe Markese. The song was one of the bigger hits of late '29, and this version was recorded on November 27 of that year. It was written by Herb Magidson (also co-wrote "the Continental" and "Enjoy Yourself, it's Later Than You Think"), Ned Washington (later would co-write "The High and the Mighty" as well as "A Town Without Pity"), and Michael H. Cleary (co-author of "Here It Is Monday and I Still Have a Dollar"). Of the many versions recorded, this is one of the more unusual since it is not meant for dancing as such. Whoever owned this record originally played it quite a lot, but there was some life left in it after all, and a light touch with noise reduction took care of the worst wear noises.
