"Would You Mind (Passing The Salt)"

by Edward Favor

One of the first singers to make "comic" records, Ed Favor had an eventful and prolific career performing on Vaudeville from about 1890 up through 1910. This, a cheerful song about tall stories at a rich man's dinner party (Vanderbilt, to be specific), is from one of his last records. Recorded in 1910, this unusual Oxford four-minute cylinder had a pair of two-minute songs on it. This is the first of those two. One listen will tell you why this effervescent tenor sold so well in the early days of recording. (And, to no one's suprise, Tim Gracyk has a web page about Ed Favor - recommended for further perusal.)
