"River, Stay Away from My Door"

by Ed Parker and his Orchestra

Eddie Droesch is actually the bandleader on this side recorded for Okeh on November 5 of 1931. The flip side of this record, "Old Playmate," is featured on a page at the DailyMotion web site. Droesch is thoroughly obscure, but seems to have led a very good band if this side is any indication. The label does not credit the vocalist but the previous link mentions Dick Robertson and it does sound very much like him. The song, co-written by Mort Dixon and Harry Woods (also wrote "Pink Elephants" and "I'm Looking Over a Four-Leaf Clover"), remained a jazz standard for years. The disc had been played quite a lot but after some judicious noise reduction you'd never know it.
