Recorded on October 12 of 1925, this arrangement was nearly a ballad but the band couldn't repress themselves. This West-Coast band got famous over the radio by virtue of their broadcasts from the Ambassador Hotel on
Wilshire Boulevard. The tune was written by Benny Davis (co-wrote many standards including "Baby Face" and "Margie") and Harry Warren (would later co-write "Chatanooga Choo Choo" and "At Last"). Charles Kaley sounds as
though he didn't know how far away to stand from the microphone, but he puts in a decent performance nonetheless. This disc was one of the early electric sides, using the prototype equipment, and needed some EQ to bring
out the natural tone color hidden behind the distortion. (For more samples, visit the page at the "Red Hot Jazz Archive".)
