"Someone is Losin' Susan"

by the Ponce Sisters

A merry tune from 1926, written by George W. Meyer (co-author of "For Me and My Gal"), Paul Ash (bandleader who recorded for Brunswick) and Roy Turk (co-wrote "I'll Get By as Long as I Have You"), and performed here by Ethel and Dorothea Ponce on August 11 of that year (accompanied by John F. Burkhardt on piano). Edison Labs brought the Ponce Sisters in a few times for recording sessions, when they weren't singing for radio, but their claim to immortality came later when they recorded some jazz sides for British Columbia accompanied by Eddie Lang and Joe Venuti (about five years after this session). The detatched style they became known for was not much in evidence here - in fact, it sounds like they were having too much fun entirely. The disc from which this was sampled had a little crackle in it, from having been played some, but that (plus the standard disc rumble) was all.
