This raucus song, written by and for an impish prankster, was originally written and performed by British comic George Robey (who also wrote "I Had to Be Cruel to Be kind") in late 1909. Edward Favor, a recording pioneer from the earliest days, delivers the
Americanized version of this devilish song with considerable skill for Edison Labs, where it was recorded on a 4-minute cylinder in December of that year. Edward shone particularly well on songs like this where he could play the merry scoundrel to the supressed
glee of his audience. This recording shows no appreciable signs of wear, and only had some groove hiss that needed to be tamed with noise reduction.
