"We're All Going Calling On the Kaiser"

by Arthur Fields

Sheet Music Cover courtesy of Lester Levy Sheet Music Collection One of the more spirited songs from World War One, written by Jack Caddigan and James A. Brennan (the pair that wrote "Rose of No Man's Land" and "She'll Be There"). Arthur recorded this song at least four times: once for Columbia (with the Peerless Quartet), one for Edison (with a chorous), one for Gennett, and this one for Pathé by himself with an anonymous accordion accompaniment - you could call this the "low budget" version, since there's only one supporting musician, but it is no less spirited. Arthur was at the zenith of his career when he waxed this side, and personally I think it's one of his better ones. The previous owner nearly played this side to death, so there is some groove damage near the end, but overall it is no more noisy than most Pathé discs of the period (especially after a measured dose of noise treatment).
