"In Your Arms"

by Nora Bayes

This song, written by Al Glazer, Otto Matzen, and Elmer Floyd was a minor hit in 1919 - apparently Nora Bayes got a good enough reaction from her audience to record it. When she made the side for Columbia, in October of that year, it was not for a standard 10-inch record but on a 12-inch. The performance is about 20 seconds too long to fit onto a standard 10-inch 78. It's a nice performance, highlighting the uncommon melodic sweetness of the song itself. The disc was not in the best of shape - it was played quite a bit, and also had some heat blistering, but some careful sound massaging has helped to bring the music out from behind the noise on this side.
