"Heaven Help a Sailor on a Night Like This"

by Jack Kaufman

Valentine's Day, 1929, recording and radio veteran Jack Kaufman made this side for the Plaza Records group; it would be issued on the Cameo, Romeo and Lincoln labels. It's irreverant and giddy as only a late 20s song can be. The tune was written by Saul Klein and Frank Galassi (teamed up to write "Within My Heart" and "I'm Just a Hobo Millionaire") along with Arthur Terker (who also co-wrote "I'll Close My Eyes to Everyone Else"). The record had not been played very much but there was some groove "hiss" to deal with. Light noise reduction was all that was necessary.
