"Here I Am"

by the Tennessee Happy Boys

This song was written by Bud DeSylva, Lew Brown, and Ray Henderson, a team that was also responsible for such 20s staples as "Birth of the Blues," "You're the Cream in my Coffee," and "Button Up Your Overcoat." This tune didn't get that kind of exposure, but it was popular enough to be recorded by Edison Labs on June 17 of 1926. The band's name was a pseudonym for Harry Reser's orchestra whenever they made records for Edison. This is take "A." Another take of this side is available for listening over at "Aardvark Mastering", and the solos toward the end of the side are different. The recording is first-rate, as one would expect from Edison, and this particular record was in nice shape so it only needed rumble removed.
