One of the livelier hotel bands, mostly because the West Coast sensibility was a bit more liberal than the East, Abe Lyman's band recorded some very hot numbers in the 20's - this is a nice example, recorded on June 14 1924 at Brunswick studios in Los Angeles.
The trombone break 2/3 of the way through (Orlando "Slim" Martin the likely purpetrator) is a highlight. The tune was co-written by Lou Handman ("Are You Lonesome Tonight" as well as "One Night of Love"), Roy Turk ("Where the Blue Of the Night Meets the Gold Of
the Day" and "Mean To Me"), and by Eddie Cantor who had himself recorded the tune back in January of that year. This disc got played a lot in its time, so there was lots of static, but it has been pushed into the background while still keeping the record's
original fidelity which was quite good for an acoustic disc.
