"You've Had Your Day"

by the Mardi Gras Sextette

Melodically similar to "Some Of These Days", an evergreen tune written nearly a decade before, this song didn't get much exposure - Lucille Hegamin and Bennie Krueger recorded it in addition to this group, and that was it. It was co-written by Cliff Edwards in 1921, and recorded by this pick-up group for Gennett in February of the following year. I have not been able to find out the personnel of this group, except that they also recorded for Okeh, though they must be listed in a discography somewhere (any intelligent input by email is appreciated). They play this jovially, in much the same way that the "Jazz-O-Harmonists" performed for Edison - I would not be surprised if there were overlapping personnel between the two groups. This particular disc was played very little, but had some minor heat blistering (evident toward the end). Standard noise reduction was able to do some nice things for this side, and we are treated to a very pleasant listening experience.
