"The Arkansas Traveller (Breakdown)"

by the Blue Ridge Duo

Harmonica player George Reneau and the future crooning superstar Gene Austin (!) are heard here in fine form playing a Country classic for Edison Labs. This was recorded on September 3 of 1924, take "C", and was also released on a cylinder. Austin and Reneau performed several sides for Edison under this name, and even though the releases had the "red star" on the label (meaning the dealer couldn't return them if they didn't sell) they seem to have sold fairly well in their time. The disc this was sampled from had some water damage but it wasn't too bad. A little filtering took care of that.
